New Jersey commissioned notary · remote online notarization

Does your car title need a notary?

Check the title requirements first—an online session is not the right fit for every transfer.

A car title records vehicle ownership. A title transfer may require a notarized signature, but requirements differ by issuing state, form, and transaction. Not every title needs notarization.

Ask the receiving motor vehicle agency, lender, or buyer whether it accepts an electronically notarized title-related document or requires the original paper title and a wet-ink signature. NFYB cannot replace a required physical title or complete vehicle registration.

For an eligible document, prepare the title-related form, the agency's instructions, an acceptable photo ID, and a camera- and microphone-ready device. Book the existing online appointment, verify your identity, and sign under the notary's guidance during the video session.

General documents start at $39 for one notarized signature; additional notarized signatures are $12 each. Confirm eligibility before paying for a session. Other document categories may cost more.

Important: Do not assume a photograph or scan of a paper title can be converted into an acceptable electronic title. Get confirmation from the receiving agency first.

Frequently asked questions

Can you notarize any state's car title online?

No blanket acceptance is promised. The issuing and receiving agencies' rules and the required document format determine whether an online notarization is appropriate.

What if an original paper title is required?

Follow the agency's instructions. You may need an in-person notary for a wet-ink signature instead of an online appointment.

Will notarization transfer ownership by itself?

No. Notarization does not replace the title transfer, tax, registration, or filing steps required by the relevant agency.
